Jay Chatterjee:
"Cincinnati Downtown: Through the Prism of Seven Projects"

Professor Jay Chatterjee of the University of Cincinnati will discuss urban design in Cincinnati through seven projects (three of which are on the riverfront), including:

  1. The Bengal’s Stadium
  2. The Red’s Stadium
  3. The Freedom Center (underground railroad museum)
  4. A new Westin Hotel
  5. A new office building
  6. Cincinnati’s convention center
  7. Downtown residential development

As you can see from this list, there is considerable overlap among the projects which Professor Chatterjee will present related to Cincinnati’s downtown development and recent developments / proposals for downtown Nashville. A lively discussion should follow.

Professor Jay Chatterjee served as Dean of the College of Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP) at the University of Cincinnati from 1982-2001. His leadership resulted in the development of a process whereby the world’s leading architects were commissioned to design major buildings for the University of Cincinnati. The DAAP’s own complex, the Aronoff Center of Art and Design, designed by Peter Eisenman, served as the model for successive campus projects.

He has received numerous awards and honors, including: the 1991 ACSP Award from the Association of the Collegiate Schools of Planning; an Apple Award in 1996 from the Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati; the Lifetime Achievement Post-Corbett Award in Cincinnati in 1999; induction as a Fellow of the AICP in 1999; and the Thomas Jefferson Award for Public Architecture from the American Institute of Architects in 2000.

Professor Chatterjee serves on many major civic and professional committees for the City of Cincinnati, including the Urban Design Review Board and the Contemporary Arts Center Board of Trustees.
