TREES; RESOURCES FOR CREATING LIVABLE AND SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES
Thursday,
May 17,
5:30 – 7:30p.m.
At the Nashville Civic Design Center
138 Second Avenue North, Suite 106
This month's Forum will feature distinguished speaker Jim Cothran, FASLA. Trees
play an important and vital role in enhancing the aesthetic character of our
communities and improving the health and sustainability of the urban environment.
This presentation will depict stunning examples from around the world of trees
used effectively in urban settings. Following this, Mr. Cothran will discuss
his role as a founding member of Trees Atlanta since 1980, a non-profit organization
of volunteers that have been remarkably successful in adding trees effectively
throughout Atlanta over the past quarter century. Mr. Cothran has a long and
illustrious career full of accomplishments, and has lectured widely throughout
the southeast on various preservation, design and planning topics. In addition
to being the recipient of numerous professional awards, he has also been recognized
and honored for many civic and public service activities.
This Urban Design Forum also serves as a lead in to a continuing education
course entitled Trees and Urban Forestry to be taught by Heather Langford here
at the Nashville Civic Design Center during the month of June. Sign-up information
for the course will be available at the Urban Design Forum. The general public
is welcome and encouraged to attend this event.
