Carol Coletta, CEOs for Cities President & CEO, will reveal "Ten Trends in Smart Cities" at the First Tennessee Continuing Education Seminar following the second annual Living the Plan of Nashville luncheon presented by BellSouth and the Nashville Civic Design Center on Wednesday, October 18, 2006.
This 2-hour seminar is aimed at urban development and design professionals looking for "what's next" for cities. The following organizations have approved the seminar for 2-hours of continuing education credits: Tennessee Real Estate Commission, Tennessee Commission on Legal Continuing Education, Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers and American Society of Landscape Architects. The cost of this professional seminar is $200. Seminar plus Living the Plan of Nashville luncheon: $250.
The trends Ms. Coletta describes will help attendees understand what is shaping cities everywhere and the success of their next project. According to Kate Monaghan, Executive Director of the Nashville Civic Design Center, “Carol Coletta will deliver the very latest thinking on why some cities succeed and some fail as well as advice for people who care passionately about making Nashville a better place.”
About our Speaker:
Carol Coletta is president & CEO of CEOs for Cities and host and producer of the nationally syndicated public radio show Smart City™. Smart City™ is a weekly, hour-long public radio talk show that takes an in-depth look at urban life, the people, places, ideas and trends shaping cities. As the show’s host, Coletta talks with national and international public policy experts, elected officials, economists, business leaders, artists, developers, planners and others for a penetrating discussion of urban issues.
Before moving to Chicago to head CEOs for Cities, Coletta served as president of Coletta & Company in Memphis. In addition, she served as executive director of the Mayors’ Institute on City Design, a partnership of the National Endowment for the Arts, U.S. Conference of Mayors and American Architectural Foundation.
Among her accomplishments, Coletta created and hosted the Memphis Manifesto Summit with Richard Florida, which assembled members of the “creative class” to write a call to action for cities; and conceived and wrote the Talent Magnet Report, the first city blueprint aimed at attracting and retaining urban artists, thinkers and entrepreneurs.
Her most recent work at the intersection of government and business includes “The Young and the Restless,” a groundbreaking report on where educated 25-34-year-olds are moving in the United States, and what cities can do to attract future movers and shakers.
Carol was a Knight Fellow in Community Building for 2003 at the University of Miami School of Architecture. Her paper on the Future of Cities, produced for the University of Houston Clear Lake’s Future Studies program, was selected for presentation to the World Future Society annual meeting. She is currently a candidate for a Master of Design Methods at the Institute of Design at IIT. She is frequently interviewed as an expert on urban issues by national media and is an active speaker on the success formula for cities and creative communities.
