The Plan of Nashville is a vision. It is also a process in which members of the Nashville design community and the community at-large volunteered many hours to collaborate on a vision for their city. This exhibition contains elements of history, research, collaboration and discussion and reveals a plan for the state capitol that connects neighborhoods, respects the city’s cultural history, natural landscape and built legacy. The plan is based on “Ten Principles” which provide guidance with the flexibility for future decision-making. Public Art is a key component of the plan. The exhibition at the Renaissance Center also features one of the Gibson Guitars which populated Nashville as designed by artist Jennifer Quigley.

“ Kingsport currently has several major efforts for improved civic design – the Downtown Kingsport and Broad Street initiatives, East Stone Commons revitalization, the wonderful Greenbelt and exciting riverfront efforts near Netherland Inn. The exhibition of the Plan of Nashville will be interesting to those who take an interest in civic planning efforts and who want to understand how to leave a better place for the next generation. I think our community’s efforts will compare favorably with this exhibit and we can gain enthusiasm and renewed energy from this confirmation,” commented Bonnie Macdonald, Cultural Arts Administrator for Kingsport.

The Kingsport Renaissance Center is located at 1200 East Center Street in Kingsport, TN. Regular gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Special hours for The Plan of Nashville also include Saturdays from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Sundays 12:00 noon – 4:00 PM.

The Arts Council of Greater Kingsport is a private, not-for-profit local arts organization that serves as an umbrella for local arts organizations providing arts advocacy, cultural leadership, services, and programs for Kingsport and the surrounding areas.
