SUMMARY:SELECTED PUBLIC ART PROJECTS FOR THE NEW CIVIC SQUARE
DESCRIPTION:The Metro Nashville Arts Commission (Metro Arts) and the Nashville Civic Design Center have opened a month long display of design proposals for the Public Square public art project. The Public Square public art project is the city’s second project under the “Percent for the Arts” ordinance that was adopted by Metro Council in 2000. Eight semi-finalists were selected from a pool of 171 artists from across the United States who responded to Metro Arts’ Cal to Artists issued in march 2006. The scope included two separate projects for the new downtown Public Square\, a four-acre park adjacent to the newly renovated Metro Courthouse. \nThis exhibit features artists’ proposals that were finalists in the “One Percent for Art” Program The four Scattered Site artist finalists (all from the State of Tennessee) were Ken Rowe (selected)\, Sheri Warner-Hunter\, Adrienne Outlaw\, Ken Rowe and Greg Schlanger. The four Public Courtyard Area artist finalists\, from the national pool\, were Thomas Sayre (selected)\, Wendy Ross\, Thomas Sayre\, Buster Simpson\, and Todd Slaughter.\nOctober 16 – November 9\n
