SUMMARY:Projects for the Redevelopment of the Cumberland River
DESCRIPTION:East Bank Study (2001-2002)\nAt the request of Rediscover East! the Nashville Civic Design Center conducted a study of the linkages between the residential areas of East Nashville to the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge and the impact of the new Gateway Bridge. The study made several recommendations to improve connectivity\, establish suitable land use and modify the design of Gateway Boulevard on the west side of the river.\nPlan of Nashville (2002-2005)\nCitizens who participated in the Plan of Nashville called for redefining the relationship of the city to the Cumberland River\, reinstating the river’s real and symbolic importance as a natural resource to be treasured and enjoyed. The Plan of Nashville envisioned a careful balance among the river’s various uses and emphasized the importance of the river as an environmental\, recreational and economic development asset.\nRiverfront Redevelopment Master Plan (2005-2007)\nIn 2007\, Hargreaves Associates Boston office completed the Nashville Riverfront Redevelopment Master Plan. The Master Plan study area encompassed nearly six miles of waterfront—centered on downtown Nashville—and included both the East and West banks of the river. The Plan relied on citizen input gathered at three public meetings and built on principles in The Plan of Nashville. This exhibit includes images from the various projects mentioned above. Some reflect the process (public meetings and visioning sessions) and the others show proposed plans and design recommendations.\nJanuary 5 - March 27\, 2009\nGallery is open 9\:00 a.m. - 4\:30 p.m.\, Monday - Friday\n
