Gary Everton of Everton Oglesby Architects discusses the Riverfront Concept Plan

Once the Nashville riverfront concept plan’s three phases are completed – some 20 years from now – Nashville’s riverfront area will look drastically different. The plan calls for a “walk on water,” which is a floating walkway on the river’s edge; a huge fountain at the intersection of Broadway and First Avenue North that will evoke memories of barges launching into the river; and a new channel cut in the river itself to create an island on the east side of the river.

To date, the Metro Council has allocated $8 million to begin implementation of the plan, and an additional $10 million in federal monies has been approved by Congress. You may view the plan in its entirety by visiting www.civicdesigncenter.org/riverfront.html. You can research the plan’s history and track its progress by visiting www.nashville.gov/mpc/riverfront

The Nashville Civic Design Center has been involved in the riverfront redevelopment project since its beginning. Please return to our website for more information on the implementation of this exciting and ambitious plan.
