Design Director named "Next American Vanguard"
Nashville Civic Design Center Design Director Gary Gaston has been named a Next American Vanguard by Next American City magazine. Gaston was one of only 33 people from around the country selected through a competitive application process to be named a vanguard, a title which honors those young urban leaders with the most outstanding records of civic engagement. He will attend the Next American Vanguard’s annual conference in Philadelphia May 26-27.
The magazine cited Gaston as an individual capable of pushing the urban advocacy movement forward and of affecting significant and measureable change in the Nashville community. His roles as a lecturer at the University of Tennessee College of Architecture and Design and as a principal contributor to the Nashville Civic Design Center’s book The Plan of Nashville: Avenues to a Great City were presented by the magazine as examples of Gaston’s dedication to city improvement. As a participant in the conference Gaston will both attend and lead group sessions addressing a wide variety of issues pertaining to urban growth and development affecting urban areas across the United States.
