The projects honored in the annual program represent the best in sustainable design and recognizable architects as experts in the creation of energy-conscious\, environmentally responsible design solutions. The program also educates the design community and the public at large about the increased values that high-performance\, sustainable design provides for developers\, building owners\, and occupants. Ken A. Scalf\, AIA\, LEED AP\, is the manager of Architectural Energy Corporation’s (AEC) southeast regional office\, in Nashville Tennessee. AEC is a business to business consulting company based in Boulder Colorado and provides services to architects\, engineers and building owners. Services include sustainable design assistance and LEED certification implementation\, energy and daylight computer modeling\, building commissioning and existing building energy evaluations.\nMr. Scalf has 30 years of experience in the field of architecture and construction. He has been engaged in the application of sustainable design principles to the profession for the past 14 years. Ken is the current Co-chairperson of the American Institute of Architects\, National Committee on the Environment (COTE). Additionally he is a board member and officer of the Middle Tennessee AIA. Ken also is a founding member of the Middle Tennessee U.S. Green Building Council and a former board member. He was previously employed by the State of Tennessee as the Assistance State Architect\, where he championed high performance\, sustainable buildings and was instrumental in the implementation of the first LEED certified building in Tennessee at Oak Ridge National Labs.\n
