We returned to Watkins for the final week of the program, where each student had the opportunity to create short films as well as provide input on the documentary in which they are starring.

Monday:Home and neighborhood short film. Carolyn, Davis and Richy led the group in a discussion about the basics of film editing, and then stepped back to let the creative juices flow! We hope to have the videos on our website soon for everyone to enjoy.

The youth had so much fun with the cameras that Tuesday they decided to interview each other about the program, and captured some wonderfully honest and candid footage. We didn’t have time to edit these into a series, but some will most likely make it into the final documentary.

Wednesday was yet another fun day with the cameras. The youth divided into groups and created their own original short films, based on a topic of their choosing. If you are on Facebook, be sure to check out the hilarious films that have all been posted to the Design Your Neighborhood page, where the videos are posted.  http://www.civicdesigncenter.org/projects/designyourneighborhood

Thursdaywas the last day of the program, and began with a productive morning at the offices of Anode. Anode is a creative marketing agency that has volunteered to assist in developing the branding and marketing campaign for the Design Your Neighborhood. The youth had the opportunity to meet with Richard Bess as well as Art Director and his team, to discuss what they felt was the essence of the program, and the message they would like to be expressed to the viewers. The afternoon was a bittersweet affair, full of laughs and sharing memories. Over a potluck lunch, Gary, Lawanda and Stephanie shared memories and favorite stories about each youth participant, who was then presented with a certificate and goodie bag. Brenda Wynn, Director of Community Outreach for Congressman Jim Cooper was our special guest for the graduation festivities. Serving as a keynote speaker, she provided words of wisdom and praise of the youth for participating in the program.
