Design Team Selected for Cumberland River Waterfront Redevelopment Master Plan

Hargreaves Associates has been chosen by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Metro Nashville Parks Department to lead a team of experts in the creation of a Cumberland River Waterfront Redevelopment Master Plan for the city of Nashville. In addition to Hargreaves Associates, the design team will include local firms Hawkins Partners (landscape architects) and Everton Oglesby Architects; Kennedy, Coulter, Rushing and Watson of Chattanooga; Moffatt & Nichol of Raleigh; Christopher Leinberger of Washington, DC; and Glatting Jackson K.A.L.R. of Orlando.

The Master Plan process, which will include public meetings to gather feedback on components of the plan as it is developed, will be completed by early 2007. The Master Plan study area encompasses nearly six miles of waterfront—centered on downtown Nashville—and includes both the East and West banks of the river. (read full press release)

History of the Project

Mayor Bill Purcell announced October 6, 2005 that the Metro Parks and Recreation Department and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will work with the Nashville Civic Design Center to create a Nashville Riverfront Redevelopment Master Plan.

The Nashville Riverfront Redevelopment Plan will rely on citizen input gathered at a minimum of three public meetings and will build on principles in The Plan of Nashville that emphasize the importance of the river as an environmental, recreational and economic development asset.

Public Meeting Process

The Nashville Civic Design Center, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers , the Metro Parks and Recreation Department and the consulting firm of Kennedy, Coulter, Rushing and Watson would like to thank all who participated in the public meetings to gather ideas for the Nashville Riverfront Redevelopment Plan.

Nearly 300 individuals, including five members of the Metro Council, attended one of the three meetings, held December 3, 5, and 8, 2005.

A request for qualifications (RFQ) to select a design team to create a master plan has been released by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is available on the Federal Register website: www.fedbizopps.gov. The solicitation number is W912P5-06-R-0004
