Key Partnerships and Relationships
University of Tennessee College of Architecture and Design
The University of Tennessee College of Architecture + Design (CoAD) is a dedicated partner to the Nashville Civic Design Center, contributing technology in addition to manpower. Both the Design Director and the Community Programs Manager serve as Lecturers with the program, and regularly visit the College to work with students. TK Davis and Mark Schimmenti, former NCDC Design Directors, have worked on several design studio courses based in Nashville, including Transit Oriented Developments for Lebanon, Donelson, Madison, Gallatin and Hendersonville, Infill Redevelopment along First Avenue along the Cumberland River and a site for the new Sounds Baseball Stadium.
Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission
Since the planning phase of The Plan of Nashville, there has existed a partnership between the NCDC and the MNAC. Workshops were held as part of the development of The Plan to determine the prelimnary locations for public art, and subsequent workshops and planning sessions were held in the process that ultimately led to the installation of the Ghost Ballet for the East Bank Machine Works by Alice Aycock, on the east bank of the Cumberland River.
Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency
The Nashville Civic Design Center has worked with MDHA since its launch in 2000 on assisting neighborhood groups establish consensus and develop a plan for spending Community Development Block Grants, distributed through MDHA from the federal government. The NCDC has also assisted in the facilitation of public meetings for the Music City Center, as well as meetings for the potential relocation of the Nashville Sounds baseball team to the former site of the Thermal Transfer Plant.
Metropolitan Planning Commission
The Metro Planning Commission’s Design Studio works closely with NCDC staff on a number of projects. Staff members have participated on review committees for projects such as the Downtown Code, adopted by the Metro Council in February 2010, as well as providing assistance with updates to the Community Plans for the ring of neighborhoods surrounding Downtown Nashville. The Plan of Nashville is consistently referenced in the work of the MPC.
