Nashvillians have been known to have innovative and transformative ideas for our built environment, but the powers that be aren’t always on board for the price tag that comes with innovation. Some ideas become dated very quickly, like the Downtown shopping mall that was envisioned in the 70s to take over the area between the Ryman and the Cumberland River. However, there are ideas we desperately wish could be picked up from the cuttingroom floor or dusted off the shelves of Metro Planning. In the Civic Design Center’s 25th Anniversary year, we are digging through the files to revisit forgotten visions and inspire new and emerging advocates to take up the torch.

This PechaKucha is hosted in partnership with AIA MidTN’s Emerging Professionals Committee, so all AIA members and Civic Design Center members can attend for free.

About PechaKucha

Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", PechaKucha rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It's a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.

PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It grew into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. The Civic Design Center is the Nashville host.
