Traffic Calming At Amqui Elementary
In 2019, the Civic Design Center partnered with Walk Bike Nashville and Amqui Elementary to implement a Tactical Urbanism project aimed at reducing distracted driving in Madison. Funded through Zendrive’s #FundMyStreets grant, the initiative engaged Amqui Elementary students and community members in designing creative solutions to calm traffic along Anderson Lane. Through a design charrette and student-led yard sign campaign, residents helped envision safer streets around the school. The project culminated in May 2019 with a colorful roadway mural by local artist Andee Rudloff, gateway treatments, and public art installations that not only slowed traffic but also fostered a stronger sense of place for the neighborhood.

Zen Drive Grant
February 2019
TURBO and Walk Bike Nashville received a grant from Zendrive to fund a traffic calming project near one of Walk Bike’s focus schools, Amqui Elementary (as part of their Safe Routes To School program). The grant money will be used to help students design yard signs to slow traffic in their neighborhood, host a design charrette with community members to decide the best ways to slow traffic in their neighborhood, and carry out a tactical urbanism project. This will include gateway treatments and a significant public art piece to slow down traffic and create a sense of place in the community.
