Making music in her home studio

Chaelle at The Basement’s New Faces Night

Howling into a valley in North Carolina

Mara Echterling grew up in a small town outside of Waco, Texas and attended Texas A&M University. While in school, she studied Philosophy and Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Sciences. Upon graduation she moved to Dallas with her partner Lauren, where they lived for two years before moving to Nashville in 2021. Here in Nashville, Mara makes music with a few different projects such as ‘Chaelle’ and an atmospheric jazz project called ‘Tamarind’ that she started with Design Center co-worker, Nia Smith. She also provides sound healing sessions for friends and community members. As an artist in the city, Mara has direct experience with the way that the built environment can either nourish or neglect the creative inspiration of community members.

Mara also loves to make collages, play Dungeons & Dragons, and do outdoor activities with friends.

What Mara Does at the Design Center:

Mara collects and creates engaging content for the Design Center’s social media accounts, so we can educate communities both local and around the world. Follow us on Instagram to see the magic! Mara also supports our many community education events by coordinating logistics and making sure everything runs smoothly.
