Educating people on Urban Planning and Community Development
The Civic Design Center was founded under the mission to use the community’s experiences and perspectives to inform cohesive civic design. This came alive as the Plan of Nashville: Avenues to a Great City. In order to transform ideas into facts, the Design Center aims to keep the greater Nashville community informed about city planning developments and also about how to advocate for themselves. This culminates into regular events, like the Urban Design Forum, as well as hosting a regular flow of research internships and design fellowships.
Our Design Your Neighborhood program uses a STEAM curriculum that is impacting thousands of students. The curriculum teaches youth about how design impacts community issues, like affordable housing and transportation. It also shows youth how to amplify their voices to drive the change they want to see.
