Civic Tour: Embracing Water Transportation

  • Lock One Marina 1505 Lock Road Nashville, TN, 37207 United States (map)

April is Transit Month, and with the Choose How You Move Plan being implemented in Nashville, it is easy to focus only on transportation with wheels, but we seriously overlook water-based transportation opportunities.

From providing industrial transportation for vessels like barges to providing Nashville’s drinking water, the Cumberland has so much to offer. It is actually a 'Blueway' - similar to a greenway, but for water! Blueways can be used for recreation and water-based modes of transportation. One of these modes is a water taxi. Pontoon Saloon has been operating a Water Taxi for Titans Game Days to showcase the joy and efficiency that water transportation can provide. Game days are hectic, and the free buses help a lot. But some folks have to drive and the water taxi option lets them pay significantly less to park, avoid gridlock traffic, and get to Nissan Stadium from Lock One Marina in just 15 minutes!

During this tour, we hope you will expand your imagination to think of the Cumberland River as much more than a barrier to cross. Attendees get the chance to ride the Water Taxi, learn more about the Cumberland River, what other cities are doing to encourage water transportation, and ideas for how future riverfront development might create more opportunities for this in Nashville.

There will be drinks and snacks on board with two departure times for you to choose from!
