One of Megan’s favorite places: the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago

Megan McCormick is one of the co-facilitators of the Nashville Youth Design Team and has worked as a Research Fellow with the Civic Design Center since early 2023. She is currently a doctoral student in Community Research and Action at Vanderbilt University. Megan is a participatory researcher who uses critical methodologies to think about what spaces and places are best for young people to build power and challenge injustice.

Megan got her B.A. in Communication at Denison University in Ohio and her AM (MSW equivalent) at the University of Chicago. Before she moved to Nashville in 2022 to start her program at Vanderbilt, she worked as a youth worker in schools in Chicago for 8 years, most recently working as a social worker in a K-8 school. Megan considers Chicago her other home-place and goes back to the city whenever she can! When she isn’t doing grad school things, she is going on hikes with her pup Stevie, singing in a choir called Nashville in Harmony, or trying out new recipes with her partner.
